The Story of the Ring Finger

The Story of the Ring Finger

There is a very interesting story that explains the meaning of the utilisation of the wedding ring in the fourth finger of the hand and the designation of that ring finger; let’s go to tell it:

  • The thumbs represent the parents
  • The index fingers are your brothers and friends
  • The middle fingers represent you
  • The ring fingers represent the person that you love
  • The little fingers or pinkies are your children

First joint your hands, palm with palm, after, unite the middle fingers so that the knuckles stay focused for inside of the hands, following by to lean the tips of the other fingers.

Try to separate each finger symmetrically.

Separate the thumbs, these represent the parents, is normally to leave the house of the parents at some time.

Try to separate the index fingers, these represent the brothers and the friends, they separate and return to join.

Try to separate the little fingers or the pinkies, these represent the children and the children also separate, sooner or later.

Finally try to separate the ring fingers (fourth finger), that represent the person that you love.

Simply not be able to separate them; a couple united by true love can’t be separated. Their union is for all life. And is, therefore, why the wedding ring be used in this finger, symbol of the eternal togetherness.

By Eglantino Panoias – English III

In Portugal, for young children, an analogy is often made with the names of the fingers, giving them functions.

Thumb / Lice killer: The thickest.

Index finger / Cake piercer: The finger that points.

Middle finger / Father of all: The largest.

Ring finger / Your neighbour: Where you put your ring.

Little finger / Pinky: The smallest.

Interaction: When the hand closes, they hide; when it opens, they form a five-pointed star.
